Sabrina Giordano is Associate Professor of Statistics at the University of Calabria. She received her degree in Statistical and Actuarial Sciences from the University of Calabria and her PhD in Methodological Statistics from the University of Milano–Bicocca. Her teaching activity, in both Italian and English languages, concerns Statistics and Data Science. In 2017 she participated as a lecturer in the European program “Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Teaching” at the University of Plymouth (UK). Abroad she also carried out research activities at prestigious universities, e.g., Bayes Business School, City - University of London (UK), RWTH Aachen University (Germany), University of Florida (USA). She has attended conferences as a speaker, served on committees, and published papers in international journals. Currently she is an associate editor of journals like Biometrical Journal, Statistical Methods & Applications, and Statistica. In addition, she is associated investigator (local coordinator) of the research unit at the University of Calabria for a project of national interest (PRIN2022) titled “SMILE: Statistical Modelling and Inference to Live the Environment”. Sabrina Giordano is the Director of a Post-Graduate Master in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, funded by the Ministry of University and Research under the Territorial Pacts for Higher Education for Business. She is a member of the international COST Fin-AI action research group. Her main research interests are in models for ordinal data.

RESEARCH INTERESTS S. Giordano's research interest mainly focuses on: models for categorical and ordinal data, mixture models, models for longitudinal data and time series, latent variables, graphical models, modelling dependence through copula functions, new distribution families for categorical and quantitative variables, models for risk perceptions and financial vulnerability. She contributed with some advances in inference issues like non-standard hypothesis testing, model misspecification, constrained statistical inference, stochastic orderings. Her research is often driven by curiosity and by a desire to discover different areas and approaches. This is why she is stimulated by national and international scientific collaborations and, albeit with less continuity, she devoted attention also to themes such as stress-strength methods, reliability, order statistics, survival analysis and randomised response techniques for sensitive questions. In her research work, the usefulness of the proposed models is backed up by applications in various fields mainly concerning finance, economics, psychology, social sciences, environment, health, behaviors, ethnicity, working conditions, genetics. She is the author of an R–package (hmmm: hierarchical multinomial marginal models) and her methodological contributions are usually accompanied by computational developments.
